Tabata timer and minigames

Interval training with the Tabata timer and your own templates – plus short minigames for reaction and focus.

Besides events and workouts, VolleyFit has two small extras: a Tabata timer for interval training and Minigames to train your reaction and focus. You’ll find both in the menu in the top left, and both are free.

Starting the Tabata timer

  1. Open the menu in the top left and tap Tabata timer.
  2. Pick a template at the top under Select template.
  3. Tap play.

The first time you open it, the app automatically creates the template “Standard Tabata”:

PhaseValue
Preparation10 seconds
Work40 seconds
Rest20 seconds
Round rest60 seconds
Sets per round8
Rounds3

While the timer runs, a circle shows the current phase – Preparation, Work, Rest or Round rest – along with the round and set. Below it you’ll see the Total progress and, under Upcoming phases, what’s still to come.

  • Use the buttons to pause, go back or skip a phase.
  • You’ll hear a sound at 3-2-1 and at every phase change. The sounds play alongside your music without turning it down.
  • The screen stays on while the timer is running.
  • If you switch to another part of the app, a banner appears that takes you back to the timer.

If you want to close the timer, the app asks End timer? – your progress is then lost.

Creating your own templates

  1. From the timer, open the Tabata templates page (if there are no templates yet, via Manage templates).
  2. Tap + or Create template.
  3. Enter a Template name (up to 20 characters).
  4. Under TIMES, set Preparation, Work time, Rest (sets) and Rest (rounds) in seconds (in steps of 5).
  5. Under REPETITIONS, set the Sets per round and the Rounds.
  6. Save the template. You can see the Total duration while you’re editing.

Tap a template to edit it. Use the trash icon to delete it.

Minigames

Under Minigames in the menu you’ll find Cognitive training: short games for attention, reaction time and mental flexibility – great for warming up or during a break.

Color Rally

A color word appears, such as “Red”, but written in a different color. Tap the color the word means – not the one it’s written in.

  • Every correct answer gives you a little less time.
  • A wrong tap or running out of time ends the game.
  • At the end you’ll see how many rounds you reached and your average reaction time.

Number Rush

On a 5 × 5 grid of numbers, tap the numbers 1 to 25 in order as fast as you can. Try to keep your eyes on the center.

  • At the top you’ll see which number comes Next.
  • Every wrong tap costs you an extra second.
  • At the end you’ll see your time.

Best scores and history

The app saves your best score for each game. View history shows your previous runs as a chart, for example score and reaction time per run. Your results are just for you – there’s no ranking against other players.
