Chat and group chats
Team chat, private messages and club chats – attachments, reactions, editing, muting and what's different in the web dashboard.
In the Chat tab you message your team, individual people or – as a coach or admin – your club's staff. It works much like the messengers you already know.
The three kinds of chat

At the top of the chat list you can filter by All, Favorites, Coaches and Groups.
Starting a chat
- Open the Chat tab.
- Tap the + button.
- In New chat, search by name or email and tap the person.
You'll find everyone from your teams and clubs. If you already have a chat with that person, it opens.
Creating a club chat: if you have the permission in your club (by default club coaches and admins), the same window shows Create club group chat. Enter a name, choose the club, then pick members from the staff. Chat admins can rename the chat later and add or remove members. People added later can see the earlier history.
Messages and attachments
- Format text like on WhatsApp:

@and pick a member. - Voice messages: tap the microphone. A recording can be up to 10 minutes long.
- Attachments via the paperclip:

Reacting, replying, editing
- Double-tap a message to react with ❤️. Press and hold to see more reactions and the menu.
- Swipe right to reply to a message.
- Reply privately opens a private chat with that person (group and club chats only).
- Forward sends a message to up to 5 chats.
- Star message bookmarks it. You'll find all starred messages in the chat info under Starred messages.
- Edit and delete only work for your own messages and only within 1 hour of sending. Deleted messages disappear for everyone.
The ticks show the status: one tick = sent, two = delivered, two blue = read. In groups they only turn blue once everyone has read the message.
Pinning: in team chats, coaches and supervisors can pin one message to the top. Each chat has one pinned message.
Staying organised
Press and hold a chat in the list:
- Favorite – shows up under the Favorites filter.
- Mute – for 1 hour, 1 day or Forever. You won't get push notifications from that chat any more.
- Mark as read / Mark as unread.
Blocking: in a private chat you can block the other person from the chat info. After that, neither of you can write; earlier messages stay visible. You can unblock at any time.
Reporting: if a message is offensive or inappropriate, press and hold it and choose Report. The report goes confidentially to the VolleyFit team – the reported person won't find out who reported them.
Leaving a club chat: in the chat info under Leave group. This only works for club chats, and not for the person who created the chat. You only leave a team chat by being removed from the team.
For parents: reading along and writing
If you're linked to your child as a guardian, you'll see their private chats and team chats and can write on their behalf. A banner then says that you're writing as their guardian. Others in the chat can see that a guardian is reading along. Forwarding and replying privately aren't available in this mode. More in Acting on behalf of your child.
In the web dashboard
In the web dashboard you open the chat with the round button at the bottom right. Most features are the same, with a few differences:
- Voice messages can only be played, not recorded.
- Press Enter to send and Shift Enter for a new line. You can drag files into the chat or paste images.
- The search in the chat list also searches messages in your recent chats.
- With the bell icon in the chat list you switch browser notifications, an in-dashboard hint and a sound for new messages on or off. Browser notifications are only sent for chat messages.
- You don't manage team chat members in the dashboard – they follow from the team.
